Zukanović: I'm putting an end to the story about me, I am now renouncing coach Sušić

Ervin Zukanović, footballer for Italian Chievo, has finally spoken, Patria reports. Namely, after today's statement by coach Safet Sušić that he will not count on Zukanović even for the upcoming qualifying matches, Zukanović addressed the public on his Facebook page. We publish the letter in full.

- After today's statement by the coach of the Bosnia and Herzegovina national football team, Safet Sušić, that he again has no intention of calling me up for the upcoming European Championship qualifiers, I felt the need to address the public and put an end to this story once and for all. I want to remind you that I am the one who suffered most from not going to the World Cup in Brazil, even though I deserved it with my performances during the qualifiers. After the agony of not going, being told that they don't need me and that I don't even have to show up because, as it were, the visa and my statement said it all, and my game meant nothing, unfortunately, this continued even after Brazil. Again negative and bad for me. Everywhere else was better for me than 'at home,' so in the meantime I moved to the Italian Serie A, and with Safet it stopped somewhere... I admit that I tried in every way to get in touch with him. I called him, sent messages, sought any way for him to tell me what I need to do to play for my country again, but Safet never answered any of my calls or messages... Why, only he probably knows. The time has come to ask him this: Is the reason for my exclusion from the national team the fact that I did not accept Safet's brother Sead Sušić as my manager when he offered himself during my stay in Belgium? I wonder what would have happened if I had?

When I moved to Italy, the coach never called to ask how I was and how things were going? It's as if we have hundreds of national team players in the top five leagues, so we can afford the luxury of not calling up one of them. I don't know how long this story about Safet Sušić and his extremely unprofessional and unfair treatment of me will go on, but I know it has to stop sometime. After he called me out today for who knows how many times and made it known that he won't count on me in the near future either, I want to say that from this moment on, I no longer count on him! So, to clarify, the national team is a part of me and it will always be that way... I am not renouncing the team, but the coach, and just as easily as he renounced me.

Thank you to everyone who supported me during these ugly months. To such true and genuine fans of our national team, I say: See you when someone comes who will know how to appreciate and respect my qualities, as clubs across Europe do. I am doing this solely to protect myself, my family, and to continue playing with dignity, holding my head high. I am always ready to fight for the most sacred jersey and I can endure anything, but the injustice of Safet Sušić I can no longer and will not - wrote Zukanović.
