Do they even know at KCUS when they dismissed Dr. Gavrankapetanović?

The Clinical Center of the University of Sarajevo has denied media reports that the KCUS Management Board dismissed Dr. Ismet Gavrankapetanović from the position of head of the Clinic for Orthopedics and Traumatology.

“We inform the public that the media reports that the KCUS Management Board dismissed Prof. Dr. Ismet Gavrankapetanović are incorrect. The truth is that Prof. Dr. Ismet Gavrankapetanović’s contract expired on July 11, 2017,” the statement from KCUS, published on the official website of this healthcare institution, reads.

“Prof. Dr. Ismet Gavrankapetanović was the head of the Clinic for Orthopedics and Traumatology at KCUS for 19 years,” it adds, among other things, in the statement.

The information sent today by KCUS differs from the one they published on Monday, July 31.

When asked by a journalist from the Patria agency, “Are the reports about the dismissal of Dr. Gavrankapetanović accurate and what are the reasons for the dismissal?” KCUS responded:

“We are focused on the progress of KCUS. We are announcing a competition for 50 specializations. We do not comment on gossip.”

Zagreb academician Dr. Slobodan Vukičević said today that the dismissal of Dr. Ismet Gavrankapetanović from the head of the Clinic for Orthopedics and Traumatology at the Clinical Center in Sarajevo is an international scandal, because he is the best European orthopedist, whom the management dismissed based on a political matrix, not because he violated professional rules.

He said that the primary and basic thing is that clinic heads should be elected for life. Such practice exists in Austria and Germany, and in all civilized countries. Only in this way can the quality of the profession be preserved.

By dismissing Dr. Ismet Gavrankapetanović from the head of the Sarajevo orthopedics, one of the largest European projects that should result in a drug that helps patients with bone healing problems and those who need to replace a missing part of the bone is jeopardized, warned Dr. Vukičević, coordinator of this project.
