Life returns to Željezno Polje, raspberry harvest begins next week

In Željezno Polje, the raspberry harvest is expected to begin next week, with its value estimated at more than three million marks, reports the Bosnian news agency Patria (NAP).

Although this place was hit by unprecedented landslides in May, which in just a few days almost completely destroyed as many as eight hamlets, life is now gradually returning to this peaceful place, and it is precisely the raspberries, planted on more than 600 dunams, that could help the local population recover after the unprecedented natural disaster.

Šerif Patković, coordinator of the FBiH Government for Željezno Polje, told the Bosnian news agency Patria that all activities in this place are now focused on connecting the hamlets with the main road leading through Željezno Polje, so that the harvest and marketing of raspberries can proceed smoothly.

- Our goal is to connect all hamlets with the main road, which was put into operation a few days ago – said Patković.

- More machines and workers are working from dawn to dusk on establishing road communication; for some places that were completely cut off by landslides, we are making alternative approaches - he said.

Željezno Polje is one of the places most affected by landslides in BiH, where in May, in just a few days, eight hamlets with several dozen houses were destroyed, the entire road infrastructure was destroyed, as well as water and electricity supply.

Interestingly, the landslides destroyed only a small part of the raspberry fields, which has restored hope for life to the local population, writes Patria.
