FBiH Railways: Frequent tree falls on the Nemila – Jelina line due to illegal logging

Following the frequent falling of trees on the Nemila – Jelina railway line, caused by illegal logging in the area, the Railways of the Federation of Bosnia and Herzegovina appeal to the competent authorities to take all legal measures as soon as possible in order to prevent further endangerment of railway traffic, reports the Bosnian news agency Patria.

- In the past ten days, specifically on Sunday, 26 October 2014, and during the weekend of 1 and 2 November 2014, on the mentioned section, cut trees struck the locomotive three times, causing damage to the traction vehicles of the Railways of FBiH, major traffic delays, and even the cancellation of certain trains - the statement said.

Regarding each of these incidents, the Railways of FBiH duly informed the Ministry of Interior of the Zenica-Doboj Canton as well as the Cantonal Forestry Administration. Each time it was determined that the falling of trees onto the track was caused by illegal logging in that area.

Given that logging along the railway belt can directly endanger the lives of all participants in railway traffic, damage railway property, and cause disruptions in the transport of goods and passengers, we publicly appeal to all competent authorities to urgently become involved in resolving this problem, the consequences of which could be unforeseeable.
