Killer soldier's son-in-law: Who is Muhamed Meco

Muhamed Meco, the son-in-law of Enes Omeragić, who killed two members of the BiH Armed Forces, is a person known to security agencies in our country, reports the Patria News Agency. 

This was confirmed today by the Minister of Security of Bosnia and Herzegovina, Dragan Mektić, who stated that Meco was processed as a radical individual in the case against Rijad Rustempašić, who was sentenced by the Court of BiH to a unified prison sentence of four years for terrorism.

Meco was arrested in a large police operation in March 2008, but was released from custody in June of the same year due to a lack of evidence for the crime the BiH Prosecutor's Office accused him of.

According to the Court of BiH, Meco was on friendly terms with co-defendants Rijad Rustempašić, Abdulah Handžić, and Edis Velić, "with whom he went to the mosque".

According to verified intelligence information, Meco set off for Syria to the battlefield but was turned back at the Turkish border.

The father of Enes Omeragić, who committed suicide shortly after committing the terrorist act in which he killed two soldiers of the BiH Armed Forces, also spoke about Meco this morning.

When asked if his son-in-law Muhamed Meco was part of a terrorist group, Šahin Omeragić said he did not know and that his son-in-law had not visited him.

"I heard from the media that he went to Syria. I haven't been in contact with my daughter or son-in-law for four years; I forbade her to come here then, she only visits her grandmother, but she lives in another house."

Regarding whether his son-in-law had been drawn into radicalism, the father said he did not know, but that they did socialize.

"My contact with my son-in-law was only: 'Good day'. This is because he wears a beard, and I haven't had contact with him for three years. I haven't heard that he is close to radical movements," Šahin said.

This morning, SIPA searched Muhamed Meco's house based on operational intelligence, after which he was taken to the Agency for Investigation and Protection premises where he was questioned, N1 reports.
