Zenica: First contract for the construction of the suburban section of the main city highway signed after eight years

(Patria) - Rasim Kovač, acting director of the Cantonal Directorate for Roads of ZDK and Jasmin Kalabić, director of the company Almy Transport Zenica, in the presence of Prime Minister Nezir Pivić and Minister for Spatial Planning, Traffic and Communications and Environmental Protection Adnan Šabani, signed a contract for the execution of works on the first suburban section of the main city highway (GGM) with a length of 550 meters, worth 1,699,999.47 KM.

- To the satisfaction of all of us, and I believe all citizens of Zenica, we will get new kilometers of the GGM through Raspotočje, i.e., through the business zone. It is very important that we continue construction, continue investing in our city and our canton.

In the next year, we expect funding for a conceptual design project, which is also foreseen in the pre-war urban plan, and that is the connection of Crkvice with the interchange in Blatuša, where we would further continue to relieve and modernize traffic in Zenica - said Minister Šabani.

The contract was signed eight years after the completion of the urban section of this vital traffic artery in Zenica, and it is planned that this year and next year, a section of 1.25 kilometers will be completed.

- The framework agreement provides for funds of 3.7 million KM for the construction of the suburban section of the GGM, which will connect the city of Zenica with the main road, i.e., the A1 highway, in terms of traffic - said the director of the Cantonal Directorate for Roads, Rasim Kovač.

Prime Minister Pivić emphasized that the continuation of the GGM construction is one of the most important infrastructure projects in Zenica, in addition to the construction of the New Hospital at the Cantonal Hospital Zenica.

- This is our commitment, and we will strive to complete the GGM completely in the next two years, which will be of exceptional importance for Zenica, and we will also work on other parts of Zenica, which will improve road infrastructure as well as road communication, given that we witness heavy traffic loads in Zenica every day.



I hope that the City of Zenica will follow all of this and get involved in solving a very important issue, because we witness that Zenica, as the center of the canton and the fourth largest city in BiH, deserves much better infrastructure.

In this regard, we are maximally available, both to Zenica and to other cities and municipalities in ZDK, to help and resolve pressing issues that are of exceptional importance for the citizens of ZDK - said Prime Minister Pivić.

He emphasized that, in addition to this, the Government of ZDK is also helping Zenica through the Emergency Medical Services and Olympic Pool projects, which are largely financed from higher levels of government, but that, as he said, it is important for the citizens of Zenica to have such important infrastructure facilities.

- It is important to note that in addition to this, we will soon begin work on the pool of the Industrial School and that we are completely modernizing the hall at Bilimišće, so these are exceptionally important projects for the citizens of Zenica.

We witness that we are also working on other issues, and one example is education. Last Monday, we opened two completely new schools, which speaks of serious investment in educational infrastructure, and we will continue in this way - said the Prime Minister of ZDK.

Work on the construction of the suburban section of the GGM begins next week.

- The machines will go to the construction site at the beginning of next week, which will mark the beginning of the realization of this contract.

I take this opportunity to ask road users for patience during the project implementation, as there will be traffic diversions, because the section is very demanding and complex - added Kalabić.
