ZENICA Kasumović got vaccinated and then called on citizens to register as well

ZENICA, (Patria) - The Mayor of Zenica, Fuad Kasumović, was publicly vaccinated today, thereby deciding to encourage his fellow citizens to trust science and doctors, and to reject all prejudices about conspiracy theories related to vaccines.

According to the Mayor of Kasumović, the citizens of Zenica had the opportunity to register for immunization at the Zenica Health Center clinics, however, the number of those registered so far is not encouraging.

"That was the only reason why I decided to get publicly vaccinated today. I wanted to encourage my citizens who trust me, and there are at least 33,000 of them in Zenica. This is not a privilege but a human gesture and an intention to break down all prejudices about vaccination, and to show trust in science and doctors. We are losing our loved ones, dear people, friends, acquaintances are leaving us...", said Mayor Kasumović.

He called on his fellow citizens to take the situation our country is in with utmost seriousness, emphasizing that vaccination is the only way out of the global challenge of the coronavirus pandemic.

"The American Institute has announced grim forecasts that up to 10,000 people could die from coronavirus in BiH by July. Citizens, as a person you have entrusted with your confidence and who has not let you down so far, I urge you to listen only to science and doctors, put aside hearsay, conspiracy theories, and decide to get vaccinated. Only then will we win this life battle, but also protect ourselves, our loved ones, and the environment in general", Mayor Kasumović conveyed.

He pointed out that he came to get vaccinated without even knowing which vaccine he would receive, and that he would get vaccinated with any of the vaccines approved by the competent institutions.

"I ask citizens to get vaccinated and prevent mortality, and try to return to normal life. The City of Zenica has funds in its budget to buy vaccines for citizens, however, unfortunately, we do not have the authority to procure vaccines. Today, I will make the City Arena 'Husejin Smajlović' operational, so that we can prepare it for mass vaccination and be ready the moment the state, or rather the entities, procure vaccines", concluded Mayor Kasumović.

Dr. Lela Brka, head of the Hygiene and Epidemiology Department of the Zenica Health Center, announced that they received Pfizer vaccines in the second batch, which will be used to vaccinate the remaining healthcare workers who did not receive the vaccine in the first phase.

"We received 192 doses of the Pfizer vaccine. Citizens could register for the vaccine at the clinics throughout March, however, given that we are not satisfied with the response, the deadline will likely be extended", said Dr. Brka.
