National Museum of BiH celebrates 132nd birthday

SARAJevo, (Patria) - The National Museum of Bosnia and Herzegovina, one of the most significant cultural and scientific institutions in our country, will mark its 132nd anniversary today.

Although it has been facing extremely great challenges in recent years, posed by the political reality of today's Bosnia and Herzegovina, the staff of the National Museum of BiH is committed to maintaining and improving the tradition it has successfully nurtured for 132 years.

Exhibitions, lectures, workshops, presentations, panel discussions – are part of the all-day program prepared by the employees of the National Museum.

The birthday celebration will last from 10 AM to 10 PM, and visitors will be able to visit the large and rich collection of this institution for free.

"From the program, I would highlight that the Sarajevo Haggadah will be available at three times, at 11 AM, 4 PM, and 9 PM. Then the central part at 12 PM – the opening of an exhibition with rare books and maps from the collection of the National Museum of BiH library – which I think is a real treat because visitors don't get to see such things," said Ana Marić, curator of the National Museum of BiH, for BHT.

Since the Museum was founded as an independent state institution by the decision of the then Provincial Government, and officially opened its doors on February 1, 1888, it has developed into the most important contemporary scientific-educational and cultural institution in Bosnia and Herzegovina. Although it has been facing extremely great challenges in recent years, posed by the sad political reality of today's BiH, the staff of the National Museum of BiH is committed to maintaining and improving the tradition it has successfully nurtured for 132 years.
