Željeznice FBiH transported 6.4 million tons of cargo in the first nine months of 2014

Željeznice FBiH transported 6,424,806 tons of cargo in the first nine months of 2014, which is 1% less than planned and 6% more compared to the same period last year, it was announced from Željeznice FBiH, reports the BiH news agency Patria.

667,282,138 NTKM were achieved, which is 11% more than planned and 11% more compared to the same period last year.

- It should be noted that the mentioned results were achieved despite the natural disasters that hit Bosnia and Herzegovina and the entire region in May. Due to severely damaged railway infrastructure, there was a drop in transport by 200,000 tons or 27% compared to the plan in May, and in June, transport was reduced by 90,000 tons or 11%. During the August floods, transport was reduced by approximately 30,000 tons or 4% - stated Željeznice FBiH.

Also, due to major damage to the Banja Luka - Prijedor railway, specifically between the stations Potkozarje - Piskavica in Republika Srpska, the transport of ore from Omarska to Željezara Zenica was impossible by rail last month, resulting in approximately 200,000 tons not transported. After the mentioned damage was repaired, the railway was reopened for traffic on October 27, 2014.

In the first nine months of 2014, 269,131 passengers were transported, which is 14.5% less compared to the same period last year and 22% less compared to the plan. 17,136,059 PKM were achieved, which is 10.5% less compared to the first nine months of 2013 and 18.6% less compared to the plan.

The mentioned decrease in the number of passengers transported and PKM achieved compared to the same period last year was primarily caused by the interruption of traffic due to natural disasters that occurred during the mentioned period, and then by the cancellation of international passenger trains Sarajevo-Ploče-Sarajevo.
