Zenica Ironworks Halts Operations in Segments: Agglomeration Plant Shuts Down Today, as Does the Blast Furnace

(Patria) - With the cessation of operations at the Agglomeration plant, which stopped working this morning at seven o'clock, the process of ending integrated production at Nova Željezara Zenica has begun, confirmed NŽZ spokesperson Alena Kahrimanović.

"During the day, or rather this evening, the Blast Furnace will also be shut down," stated Kahrimanović.

Tomorrow, the Steelworks plant is also expected to cease operations.

The company's management, due to the non-adoption of the Decision on the Protection of Domestic Steel Production by the Council of Ministers of Bosnia and Herzegovina, has concluded that under such conditions, it is impossible to maintain profitable production.

The Government of the Federation of BiH presented its plan for a possible solution to the current crisis in the only BiH steel producer yesterday, designating Energoinvest as the leader of this process. A new press conference of the leaders of Nova Željezara Zenica has been scheduled for today, where the company's position will be presented.

The Metalworkers' Union of FBiH, which met in Sarajevo yesterday, decided to organize protests for April 30. On that day, workers will protest in front of the buildings of the Council of Ministers of BiH, the Government of FBiH, and the Employers' Association of FBiH.
