ZDK allocates 3.4 million KM for scholarships

(Patria) - The Zenica-Doboj Canton (ZDK) is seeing a significant increase in the number of student scholarships and the total funds allocated for higher education support this year.

According to data from the ZDK Ministry of Education, Science, Culture, and Sport, 1,581 students have qualified for scholarships in the 2024/2025 academic year – an increase of 314 compared to last year, when 1,267 scholarships were awarded. This represents an increase of almost 25 percent.

Minister of Education Mirza Mušija emphasizes that 1,200,000 KM has been planned in the budget for this purpose.

- The relevant ministry has allocated a total of 1,200,000 KM from the budget for this purpose. The individual scholarship amounts to 750 KM and will be paid out in a lump sum.

Particular attention has been given to supporting students pursuing in-demand professions with a grade point average of 8.0 or higher. This year, 175 of them will also receive an additional award in the same amount – a total of 1,500 KM each.

Last year, 69 students received this type of double scholarship, meaning the number of these scholarship recipients has more than doubled, which is a very important matter for us – stated Mušija.

In addition to scholarships from the Ministry of Education, the ZDK Ministry for Veterans' Affairs is also allocating significant funds, earmarking an additional 2,200,000 KM for this purpose.

A total of 1,480 students have qualified for scholarships from this fund – first-year students receive 1,000 KM each, while upper-year students receive 1,400 KM each, paid in eight equal monthly installments.

The Canton also allocates additional funds for subsidizing accommodation in student dormitories, and support is provided through the relevant ministry to ease the burden of studying for students.

Data from 2025 confirms that support for students in ZDK is currently at an all-time high – over 3,000 young beneficiaries are receiving scholarships from one of the two cantonal funds, and a total of 3.4 million KM is being allocated for scholarships.
