Increased number of interventions at Mostar Emergency Service due to high temperatures

(Patria) - Due to the heatwave and extremely high temperatures, the Emergency Medical Service of the "Stari grad" Health Center in Mostar is recording an increased number of interventions.

In the last few days, as temperatures have risen, we have recorded an increased number of patients in the Emergency Service, both in the field and in the clinic. The most common complaints they report are blood pressure variations, syncope, and stomach problems, said Merima Halilović, a doctor at the Emergency Medical Service of the "Stari grad" Health Center in Mostar.

Regarding age groups, Halilović says, these are patients from children to the elderly.

Traffic accidents are also very common in this area at this time, and with the arrival of the summer season, an increasing number of tourists are reporting to the Emergency Service.

“Tourists often seek help at the Emergency Service, and most often report stomach problems,” emphasizes Dr. Halilović, explaining that due to increased temperatures, food spoilage is also more common, which is mostly the cause of digestive problems.

Due to the extremely high temperatures, citizens are advised to avoid going out between 11 AM and 5 PM, to spend time in air-conditioned rooms if possible, to drink plenty of fluids, to have adequate, lighter meals, and to wear lighter clothing if they need to go out in the high temperatures.

Otherwise, the Federal Ministry of Labour and Social Policy has issued recommendations to employers to prevent harmful effects on workers' health due to adverse weather conditions caused by high temperatures in the FBiH.

They appealed to employers to consider the possibility of suspending outdoor work between 12 PM and 5 PM and resuming it after 5 PM, and if this recommendation cannot be followed in this way due to work organization, the Ministry recommended employers to move the start of the working day to six o'clock in the morning for workers performing outdoor jobs.
