Swastika incident in the RS National Assembly: Opposition claims Stevandić physically assaulted

(Patria) - At the very end of today's session of the National Assembly of the Republic of Srpska, an incident occurred in the hallway that could have escalated into a serious physical altercation involving the Speaker of the RS National Assembly, Nenad Stevandić.

Nebojša Vukanović asked Stevandić whether Draženka Janjanin, who is to be appointed director of the Insurance Agency of the Republic of Srpska, is his sister-in-law, which Stevandić confirmed... Is that nepotism, Vukanović asked, followed by heckling from ruling party deputies... Eventually, Stevandić cut off Vukanović's speaking time, and soon after the session was interrupted when the incident occurred.

The "For Justice and Order" caucus claims that the Speaker of the National Assembly, Nenad Stevandić, physically attacked deputies from this caucus.

"Mr. Stevandić got in our faces and said 'move aside so I can pass,' and he also raised his hand and then pushed us. A lynch mob atmosphere is being created here," said the head of the For Justice and Order caucus, Nebojša Vukanović, at a press conference.

According to Vukanović, the police will be informed about everything.

The "For Justice and Order" caucus received support from representatives of the Serbian Democratic Party and the Party of Democratic Progress.

"Such things have been happening ever since Stevandić took the chair; they never happened before. No one has the right to end a debate in order to settle scores with deputies; this is unheard of," said the head of the SDS caucus, Vukota Govedarica.

"Parliament cannot function like this. We will try to bring Stevandić to his senses," Govedarica stated.

For the head of the PDP caucus, Igor Crnadak, these are sad scenes that lead to violence on the political scene.

"The regime has decided to settle scores with political opponents, and we are ready. Nenad Stevandić should apologize," Crnadak said.
