Are doctors at General Hospital preparing to strike due to merger with UKCS?

At the beginning of December this year, a working group was formed to reform healthcare, with the most interesting announcement being the merger of Prim. dr. Abdulah Nakaš General Hospital and the University Clinical Center in Sarajevo (UKCS), writes the Patria news agency.

None of the officials want to speak openly about the intentions of the cantonal and federal authorities, although a number of questions have already been raised in public, including what will happen to the General Hospital building, given that it is military property.

It is no secret that the idea originated from Sebija Izetbegović, the wife of Bakir Izetbegović, who wants to head the UKCS. The Medical Chamber warned that this procedure would lead to a monopoly and that it is detrimental to merge these two institutions, as a kind of competition has developed between them, from which the end-users have always benefited.

However, the most confused in this whole story are the employees of the General Hospital, but they speak very little about it, because Izetbegović, whom all employees fear, is at the head of this hospital.

It is only whispered that the employees might go on strike, as many fear for their jobs. All citizens know what the service was like at the General Hospital, so some cannot come to terms with the fact that someone wants to close it – says an employee of the General Hospital, rightfully wondering what will happen to the General Hospital building.

Otherwise, according to the Law on the Prohibition of Disposal of State Property, it is clearly stipulated how the user of the property can be changed.

This was very explicitly explained by Muharem Cero, who pointed out that the Commission for State Property should propose a decision on the exclusion of that property and the prohibition of disposal, which should be adopted by the Council of Ministers of BiH and subsequently confirmed by the Parliamentary Assembly of BiH.
