Major traffic changes due to 'Sarajevo Half Marathon'

SARAJEVO, (Patria) - The race under the motto  „I run for inclusion - So that no one is left out!“ will start at 9 a.m. today. Over 180 runners will take part in all three races, the half marathon, G-relay and FunRun for the inclusion race. The eponymous campaign aims to raise society's awareness of the obligation to respect the rights of children with Down syndrome to inclusive education, and to secure the missing financial resources for programs and activities intended for children and young people with Down syndrome.

A large number of Bosnia and Herzegovina's famous marathon runners and other athletes, employees of numerous companies and embassies, students, primary and secondary school pupils, and other community members have responded to the campaign. We are pleased to announce that British Ambassador Matt Field will also run for inclusion. This year, for the first time, young people with Down syndrome will distribute medals to half marathon participants. Runners will be cheered on by primary and secondary school students from Sarajevo Canton, which adds a special charm to the event and shows how young people have no prejudices towards the different. In addition to the start and finish, fans will also be at the cheering station at Wilson's Promenade.

Due to the holding of the city race «Sarajevo Half Marathon 2019» from 07:00 to 12:00, the following changes will occur in the operation of public city transport:

- Tram traffic will operate on the route Ilidža - Railway Station, meaning it will not be in operation on the route Technical School - Baščaršija - Technical School;
- Trolleybus traffic to Jezero will not be in operation, i.e., it will be redirected to the Trg Austrije terminal;
- Bus line 31e Vijećnica - Dobrinja will change its starting terminal and part of its route, and will depart from the Trg Austrije terminal, and on the route Trg Austrije - Pofalići in both directions it will operate along the trolleybus route;
- Bus lines for Podhrastove, Bare, Koševsko Brdo and Breka will change their starting terminal and will depart from the Drvenija terminal instead of the Dom Armije;
- Other bus and minibus lines whose route is used or crossed by race participants (lines departing from the Sutjeska, Drvenija and Park terminals) will be temporarily suspended until the runners pass.
