Due to Omerović's Arbitrariness, Over 1,000 Residents of Kalesija Villages Cut Off from the World

The villages of Zelina, Jelovo Brdo, and Gojčin in the Kalesija municipality have been cut off from the rest of the world after the bridge over the Spreča River was swallowed by water in catastrophic floods, writes the Bosnian news agency Patria.

Only thanks to a humane businessman from Kalesija, Sead Džafić, more than 1,000 residents of these villages finally got a new bridge, the banks of the Spreča River were arranged, and parents could without fear start letting their children go to school. It is important to note that the Municipality did not contribute a single mark to the construction of the bridge.

Although the bridge was completed seven days ago and even “ceremonially” opened to traffic, the Mayor of Kalesija Municipality, Rasim Omerović (SDA), stopped everything, closed the bridge, justifying it by the issuance of a use permit.

Thus, the residents of three Kalesija villages are once again cut off from the world, children cannot go to school, the elderly and sick cannot reach doctors...

One of the outraged residents, Jusuf Bećirović, sent an open letter via social networks to Bakir Izetbegović, the deputy president of the SDA, warning about Omerović's behavior.

We convey only one part of that letter.

- Mr. Izetbegović, I do not know if you are aware, the residents of the above-mentioned villages were left without a bridge over the Spreča River in the May floods. Our mayor (Rasim) Omerović placed several pipes and covered them with earth as an emergency crossing. You must know, as soon as it rains, our children cannot go to school, the sick are driven to Osmake, the birthplace of your advisor, which is more than 30 kilometers away. How many times those few pipes were repaired you can ask, and we would also be glad to see how much they reported spending on that circus of a bridge.

While your and other parties were seeking support across BiH and fighting for their own seats, the residents of these villages gave their support to Mr. Sead Džafić and will be grateful to him even our great-grandchildren.

Mr. Izetbegović, the man built a bridge, and you can see that in the pictures. The man invested more than 100,000 KM of his own money, and his daughter 30,000 KM for the bank arrangement.

Mr. Izetbegović, the bridge is built and completed. Today it should be functioning normally. Your mayor Omerović found some legal nonsense and issued a ban on using the bridge. It is raining, children cannot go to school, the letter states, among other things.
