Traffic jams at Skenderija cause hour-long drives to the city center

Morning traffic jams on Sarajevo's main road are a common occurrence, but the jam that has been forming daily at the intersection at Skenderija has been going on for almost two months. Initially, the jam was caused by the renovation of the Skenderija bridge, the reconstruction of which began in early April, but vehicle passage over the bridge is slow, which, along with the large number of vehicles and the short duration of the green light at the traffic signals, causes traffic jams, writes the BH News Agency Patria.

Skenderija bridge renovation is slowing down traffic

Another reason for the increased traffic jam is the suspension of tram traffic from Skenderija to Baščaršija for safety reasons, as on May 15, part of the wall near the Ćumurija bridge collapsed due to the swollen Miljacka river, and tram traffic was banned as a precaution. Therefore, trams now only run to Skenderija, which, along with the large number of vehicles, creates unbearable traffic jams. Thus, a bus ride from Dobrinja to Baščaršija takes 60 minutes, and the drive from Marijin Dvor to Skenderija alone takes up to 15 minutes, writes Patria.

On several occasions, traffic was regulated by the police, but recently this has not been the case, so drivers and citizens should arm themselves with patience, but expect delays to their destinations in any case, writes NAP.
