Due to unconstitutional activities from RS, German soldiers remain in BiH for another year

(Patria) - The German Bundestag has approved the extension of the mission of German soldiers in Bosnia and Herzegovina within the EUFOR "Althea" operation for at least another year, confirmed from official sources.

Secessionist tendencies of RS as a key threat

In official documents of the German government, it is stated that the leadership of RS is pursuing a policy that directly undermines the constitutional and legal order of BiH, which could lead to a broader destabilization of the Western Balkans.

“The recent adoption of laws in RS has led to the most severe constitutional crisis in BiH in the last 30 years,” the document states.

The government in Berlin emphasizes that the actions of the RS leadership are aimed at increasing autonomy and undermining the functional integrity of the joint state, which justifies the continuation of the military presence within the EUFOR mission.

Engagement in EUFOR has symbolic and security significance

Germany emphasizes that in this way it not only contributes to security in BiH but also strengthens the role of the EU and Germany in European security policy. The Bundestag agreed by a majority vote with the government that this engagement is strategically important.

The basis for the engagement is found in Article 24, paragraph II of the German Constitution, which allows participation in collective security systems for the preservation of peace in Europe.

Divided opinions within the Bundestag

While the ruling parties and the Greens supported the continuation of the mission, some deputies from the left and right criticized this decision:

The Left emphasized the necessity of resolving the crisis in BiH domestically, without international interventionism.

The right-wing bloc highlighted excessive allocation of funds for military operations, while simultaneously ignoring domestic economic needs.
