Conclusion of Study Visits to the Homeland: A Journey That Shaped Generations

(Patria) - With the return of students from the final trip, the study visits "From War to Peace I" and "From War to Peace II" have been successfully concluded.



This educational endeavor, carried out within the special program "Culture of Remembrance," lasted throughout the entire 2024/2025 academic year, including several previously planned trips that were completed at the beginning of the current school year.



We recall that the implementation of this project in the Sarajevo Canton began back in the 2023/2024 school year, and to date, approximately 12,500 students have participated in the study visits.

During the journey through the rich cultural, historical, and natural heritage of Bosnia and Herzegovina, students explored hundreds of kilometers of the homeland - getting to know monuments, learning about heroic periods, heritage, and the beauties that make our country unique.



This project would not have been possible without the dedication and vision of the Ministry of Education of Sarajevo Canton, which provided all necessary financial resources and enabled every child to have an equal opportunity for this unforgettable experience - completely free of charge.

The study visits covered numerous locations across the country.

First-grade secondary school students traveled through the central, northern, and western parts of Bosnia and Herzegovina on the route: Sarajevo – Fojnica – Vitez – Jajce – Bihać – Cazin – Velika Kladuša – Bužim – Prijedor – Vlašić – Travnik – Sarajevo.



Second-grade students explored the central, northern, and northeastern parts of the homeland on the route: Sarajevo – Vranduk – Maglaj – Tešanj – Gračanica – Lukavac – Tuzla – Srebrenik – Gradačac – Brčko – Čelić – Tuzla – Bijeljina – Janja – Teočak – Tuzla – Sapna – Zvornik – Kladanj – Olovo – Sarajevo.

Over four intensive days, students had the opportunity to get to know the most important symbols of our cultural and historical identity, feel the beauty of natural landscapes, and learn to love the homeland even more sincerely.



- The goal of this monumental project was to provide comprehensive education about the cultural, historical, and natural heritage of Bosnia and Herzegovina, as well as about the key events, figures, and processes that have shaped our country.

Special attention was paid to the development of a culture of remembrance and collective memory, with an emphasis on the period of aggression against Bosnia and Herzegovina and the anti-fascist struggle during World War II.



At the same time, the project encouraged dialogue, understanding, and appreciation among students from different ethnic and cultural backgrounds, thereby strengthening the values of pluralism, diversity, and coexistence – the foundations of lasting peace in these areas - explained the Minister of Education of Sarajevo Canton, Naida Hota-Muminović.



The Public Institution Institute for the Development of Pre-University Education of Sarajevo Canton, as the bearer of this endeavor, will continue, with the full support of the relevant ministry, to work on the development of this and other projects of a similar nature, with a vision of expanding the program to other parts of Bosnia and Herzegovina.



Upon the conclusion of the current trips, a continuation of this great mission is planned in the calendar year 2026 through a new cycle of study visits, which, in addition to the existing routes, will include an additional trip – "From War to Peace III," intended for third-grade secondary school students, who will have the opportunity to explore the southeastern, southern, and southwestern parts of our country.



- With this, we close another chapter, but not our journey. Because the journey through the homeland never ends – it only grows into greater love, stronger knowledge, and lasting commitment to its future - added Hota-Muminović.
