47th CIGRE Session Concluded: Electricity Without Smoke

PARIS, (Patria) - A new strategic plan, presented in the "Brochure of the Future" and discussed at the 47th session of the International Council on Large Electric Systems - CIGRE, which concluded in Paris this weekend, promoted the principle of "electricity for all" regardless of economic power. In line with the discussion in one of the most significant sessions of this gathering dedicated to the future sustainability of the energy system, a readiness was expressed to support economically less developed member countries in the realization of their national plans for the production of "clean" electricity.

It was announced at the session that CIGRE in Africa, in cooperation with the World Bank, has already formed a working group for that part of the world. The conference in Paris was an opportunity to discuss the tasks and approach to financing energy projects. The commitment is to achieve the ultimate common goal in this part of the world as well: the complete elimination of harmful gas emissions by the end of this century. 

Power engineers are rapidly following technological development, which could be concluded from the discussion on global perspectives of sustainability, resilience, and distributed generation. The global system is developing towards an integrated and hybridized grid that contains elements of traditional and new technologies, digital and physical, large and small, working synergistically. It can be concluded that the impact of this transformation leads to the mass installation of smart connected devices, big data, and analytics so that decision-makers can make better decisions that lead to greater reliability, security, and efficiency of the grid.

The raising of reliability in the operation of the Kakanj thermal power plant was precisely the topic of a paper presented by a group of Bosnian and Herzegovinian experts at this major world gathering.

The delegation of the Bosnian and Herzegovinian National Committee of the International Council on Large Electric Systems at the Paris conference was led by Edhem Bičakčić, who was re-elected as a member of the CIGRE Administrative Council. The BiH delegation had numerous meetings with delegations from other national committees and exchanged extensive expert information on committee work experiences and the development of the power system, particularly the construction of new production facilities.

On this occasion, Sarajevo's candidacy to host the session of the Management Board of the regional organization of the International Council on Large Electric Systems next year was highlighted.

The forty-seventh CIGRE session in Paris was held from August 26 to 31, with the participation of 3,650 delegates and 8,550 experts from 93 countries. At this, the largest professional gathering in the world during 2018, 550 papers were presented, and global equipment manufacturers, IT support service providers, and others exhibited at 300 stands.
