Protests concluded: Eight demands for BiH authorities

(Patria) - The informal student group "Hoće l' ta promjena" organized today's protests in front of the building of the Parliamentary Assembly of Bosnia and Herzegovina (PSBiH) due to the situation of the residents of Jablanica, the surroundings of Konjic and Fojnica following last year's floods.

They presented their eight demands, in which, among other things, they called for accountability and justice for those who perished in the floods. They stated that it is time to take action and bring about change. They also emphasized that the state is the first address they must turn to if they want justice to be served. Students and numerous citizens today demanded justice for the victims in Jablanica, the surroundings of Konjic and Fojnica.

Hundreds of citizens gathered today in front of the Parliament of BiH from numerous cities to support the students who raised their voices.

It was stated that they will not stop at one protest and that this is only the first step.

The demands of the informal student group are:

- Urgent initiation of investigations and urgent filing of indictments against responsible persons
Urgent informing of the public about all actions taken by competent services, bodies and institutions regarding the deaths of 29 of our fellow citizens

- Criminal sanctions for all those responsible for the operation of the illegal quarry that caused the deaths of 19 people in Donja Jablanica

- Criminal sanctions for those responsible within competent bodies, services, institutions who failed to act preventively and prevent the deaths of 29 people in the floods of October 2024

- Revision of all quarries and other ecologically dangerous projects that pose a future threat to human lives across BiH.

- Alignment of all spatial plans with the landslide map and the torrential river map across Bosnia and Herzegovina to prevent a repeat of Jablanica, Konjic and Fojnica

- All data on collected aid and public disclosure of the expenditure of all funds, both from the Federation budget and donations received for all flooded areas from October 2024

- Publicly announce the plans and timeline for the rehabilitation of the flooded areas.
