Days of European Heritage Concluded

The "Days of European Heritage" event concluded yesterday at the Konjic Cultural Center, reports the BH news agency Patria.

The "Days of European Heritage" event was established in 1991 by the Council of Europe, with the support of the European Community in Strasbourg. The aim is to inform the widest layers of society about the importance of preserving, protecting, presenting, and promoting cultural heritage, while educating them that the national cultural heritage of European countries is part of the overall cultural heritage.

A film about wood carving from Konjic was also presented in Konjic, which the Federal Ministry of Culture and Sports prepared for the nomination of this artistic craft for the UNESCO list of intangible cultural heritage.

The program "Youth and Heritage" was also organized, and this year's hosts for primary and secondary school students from the Federation of Bosnia and Herzegovina were Jablanica High School and the Youth Club "Under the Same Sun".

The theme of this year's youth program was "Decorative Art in Bosnia and Herzegovina", and the Federal Ministry of Culture and Sports received over 400 artistic, literary, and documentary works from primary and secondary school students for the competition.

All student works were inspired by the cultural and historical treasures of Bosnia and Herzegovina, and numerous graphics, drawings, models, essays, photographs, and videos were submitted. An exhibition of the works was set up in the premises of the Youth Club "Under the Same Sun", and the most successful students were awarded diplomas at a special ceremony.

An exhibition about stećci (medieval tombstones) was opened at the Konjic Cultural Center, prepared as a promotional activity for the nomination of stećci for the UNESCO World Cultural Heritage list. The exhibition about stećci, which are particularly characteristic of the Konjic region, was presented by archaeologist Lidija Fekeža-Marinović.

Visitors also had the opportunity to watch a video about Jablanica, which won an award at the "Youth and Heritage" event in 2012. There was also talk about the traditional song, sevdalinka, which was interpreted by Mensura Bajraktarević.
