Project "Let's Learn RRR – Reduce, Reuse, Recycle" Completed

The project "Let's Learn RRR (reduce, reuse, recycle) – reduce, reuse, recycle" was ceremonially concluded in the hall of the Great Hall of the Municipality of Stari Grad. The project, worth 20,000 KM, was mostly funded by the Government of the Czech Republic, along with the Municipality of Stari Grad, through the Sector for Local Development. As part of this project, 27 bins for selective waste were procured and placed in the schoolyards of all central and regional facilities in Stari Grad, as well as 27 small bins for selective waste for the interior of school facilities. Three containers for collecting used clothing and footwear were also procured, reports the BiH news agency Patria.

- Educational workshops on environmental protection, with a special emphasis on selective waste, were organized for students of all six primary schools in Stari Grad. Education and testing of students were entrusted to the specialized Association "COOR". Furthermore, a competition for students to test their knowledge in the field of environmental protection was organized on this topic. The level of knowledge among students and teaching staff regarding the importance of environmental protection and selective waste disposal has been raised.

The best participants of this competition were announced today, and valuable prizes and diplomas were awarded to them by the Mayor of the Municipality of Stari Grad, Ibrahim Hadžibajrić, and the Ambassador of the Czech Republic to BiH, Jakub Skalník. Before the announcement of the competition winners, Mayor Hadžibajrić thanked the Government of the Czech Republic for this project, which is unique in the Municipality of Stari Grad to date.

Ambassador Skalník also expressed his satisfaction with the completion of the project, especially because children were an important part of it.

- In the Czech Republic, we started with waste sorting and subsequent recycling 25 years ago. First, we started educating our children about it, and later these children literally taught their parents to start sorting and separating waste. I believe that something similar will happen here with the children of Stari Grad and their parents - said Ambassador Skalník and congratulated the award recipients.

The first place and a cash prize of 2,000 KM were won by Primary School "Šejh Muhamed ef. Hadžijamaković". The second place and 1,500 KM were won by Primary School "Vrhbosna", and the third place and a cash prize of 1,000 KM were won by students of Primary School "Edhem Mulabdić". Students from the 5th and 6th grades participated in the project, and the money will be used to raise ecological awareness in schools. Ambassador Skalník presented all participants with commemorative gifts.
