Public Health Institute to test the quality of water consumed by Sarajevo residents

(Patria) - The Public Health Institute of Sarajevo Canton took a sample yesterday and will analyze water from the city's water supply.

In their announcement, they state that they will test water from the city's water supply.

“Due to public concern and a large number of inquiries received by the Public Institution Institute yesterday, we inform you that the Institute has not been testing the health safety of water from the water supply network managed by KJKP Vodovod i kanalizacija d.o.o. Sarajevo since March 2022. However, in order to protect health and prevent diseases, the Institute's expert team will sample and test water from the city's water supply for health safety at the point of final consumption on 07/26/2024,” the statement reads.

They then added:

“Citizens can find out about the test results on the website and Facebook page of the Public Institution Institute of Public Health of Sarajevo Canton at the beginning of next week.

We emphasize that the Institute continuously monitors the epidemiological situation in Sarajevo Canton in terms of infectious disease reports from healthcare institutions, and at the time of writing this notice, we do not have an increased number of infectious disease reports that could be linked to the consumption of unsafe water.”

Finally, they stated that the water was also tested for microbiological parameters.

“As part of its regular activities, the Institute samples and tests water from public fountains whose water originates from the city's water supply, located in the immediate tourist-historical core of the city, as well as fountains located in places visited by a large number of people. In July, water was sampled at the beginning of this week and tested for microbiological parameters defined by the Rulebook on the health safety of drinking water (Official Gazette of BiH numbers: 40/10, 43/10, 30/12, and 62/17). The test results are shown in Table 1.

The results of all water tests conducted in the laboratories of the Public Institution Institute of Public Health of Sarajevo Canton, originating from the public water supply system, can be found in the monthly Bulletins published by the Institute on its website,” they concluded.
