Institute for Public Health of the FBiH: Protect Yourself from Mosquitoes

During the summer months, we are often exposed to mosquito bites and annoyance, and the beginning of this summer has been marked by an unprecedented invasion of these insects, primarily in the flooded areas of Bosnia and Herzegovina, reports the Patria news agency.

Precisely because of this, the Institute for Public Health of the FBiH has warned that, in addition to being nuisances (pests) that bother people and disturb them during outdoor activities, work or recreational activities, etc., mosquitoes can be carriers of a number of infectious disease agents, such as malaria, yellow fever, West Nile fever, etc.

- Therefore, mosquito control and protection from their effects have great public health importance. In addition to organized public health action and the implementation of general mosquito control programs, we remind you of the importance of individual protective measures against mosquitoes, which you can take yourself and protect yourself from their effects - they say from the Institute.

It was also explained how to protect yourself from mosquitoes:

·   If possible, avoid staying outdoors during the period of greatest mosquito activity, from dusk to dawn.

·    When staying outdoors, wear long-sleeved clothing and long pants.

- Use repellents, substances that repel mosquitoes, available in various forms (creams, sprays). It is necessary to strictly follow the manufacturer's instructions for the specific product, as well as general instructions for their application.

- After returning indoors, protected from mosquitoes, wash the skin with water and soap.

- To protect the living space from mosquitoes entering, protect windows and doors with fine mesh nets.
