Stop political interference in the work of the Medical Chamber

SARAJevo, (Patria) - Delegates of the Assembly of the Medical Chamber from all healthcare institutions of the Sarajevo Canton who voted for the principle of secret ballot for the election of the leadership of the Medical Chamber, sent a press release today to objectively inform the public regarding the interruption of the Regular Election Assembly of the Medical Chamber of Sarajevo Canton.

- We responsibly state that the sole reason for the interruption of the Election Assembly was the voting principle. Delegates of the Assembly of the Medical Chamber of Sarajevo Canton did not allow political pressure to be exerted on the medical profession 12 days before the General Elections in Bosnia and Herzegovina, which would have been done through the principle of public voting advocated by the leaders of the KCUS.

In the General Elections in Bosnia and Herzegovina, we elect 7,000 candidates by secret ballot, and there is no reason why the election for positions and bodies within the Medical Chamber should not follow the same principle, i.e., as regulated by the Chamber's acts, Statute, and Rulebook on the election of Chamber bodies.

The Medical Chamber of Sarajevo Canton must become an apolitical professional organization and a partner to the authorities, participating in the creation of the healthcare system. We reject all other insinuations - the statement reads.

We remind you that at the session that was interrupted, after the vote, 37 delegates voted for the principle of secret ballot, while 21 delegates voted for public voting. After that, the majority of delegates from KCUS left the hall, and there was no longer a quorum to continue the session. According to the Statute, Dr. Raho Spahović remains at the head of the Medical Chamber for a period of 60 days, after which an Election Assembly will be held.

Candidates for the head of the Medical Chamber of Sarajevo Canton are Prof. Dr. Ismet Gavrankapetanović (General Hospital "Prim.dr. Abdulah Nakaš") and Dr. Zaim Jatić (Public Institution Health Centers).
