Inspection of Major Industrial Air Polluters Requested

(Patria) - The Federal Administration for Inspection Affairs has been requested to inspect major industrial air polluters. Given that the key task for improving air quality is reducing
emissions from various sources, the Ministry of Spatial Planning, Construction and Environmental Protection of Sarajevo Canton has, in recent days, requested from the Federal Administration for Inspection Affairs the inspection of the operations of major industrial air polluters for which environmental permits were issued at the federal level.

It is expected that, in a situation of significantly deteriorated conditions, due to which a 'Warning' is in effect, the competent Federal Environmental Protection Inspection will urgently intensify its activities and publish the results of its supervision.
Furthermore, maximum engagement has also been requested from the Cantonal Administration for Inspection Affairs, which, according to available information, is conducting intensive checks on combustion plants that use solid fuels in their operational process, while simultaneously overseeing the implementation of the Plan of Emergency Measures in cases of excessive air pollution.

In this regard, compliance with the obligation of all managers or owners of boiler rooms to submit reports to the Ministry on the measurement of pollutant emissions from combustion installations is also being checked. Namely, it has been observed that a significant number of these operators do not respect the obligation to submit measurement reports, which they should ensure through authorized laboratories, thereby violating the provisions of the Rulebook on
Monitoring of Polluting Emissions into the Air of the Federation of BiH, as well as the Decision on the Protection and Improvement of Air Quality in Sarajevo Canton.

We remind you that all operators of combustion plants with a capacity exceeding 50 kW, for all types of fuel, are obliged to submit measurement results to the Ministry once a year for the purpose of maintaining the Emissions Register, as well as for checking results and potential competent inspection action. In addition to the above, it is expected that all other inspections within their competencies will intensify efforts, which concern, among other things, quality control, the sale of energy products, traffic operations, maintenance of municipal hygiene, waste management, fire protection, etc.
