Representatives Across BiH Invited to Join Potocari Memorial Center Support Program

(Patria) - The Srebrenica-Potočari Memorial Center today presented the "Representatives for the Memorial Center" program to the public, within which it plans to significantly involve elected representatives at state, entity, and cantonal legislative bodies in the activities of this institution.

"Our goal is to develop a broad network of elected representatives from all levels of government who are involved in decision-making processes, so that they have adequate information about our activities. In this cooperation, advocating for the adoption of legal regulations prohibiting the denial and minimization of genocide, joint action in combating hate speech, and connecting with various international partners who will contribute to raising awareness about the facts related to the genocide in Srebrenica are of particular importance," stated the Srebrenica-Potočari Memorial Center, a memorial and cemetery for the victims of the 1995 genocide.

Given that preparations for marking the 25th anniversary of the genocide in Srebrenica are already underway, the Memorial Center emphasizes that every form of support is important, and that involving representatives in this way is an opportunity for cooperation in promoting the truth about the genocide to transcend ethnic or political divisions in Bosnia and Herzegovina.

"Parliamentarians who join this program will support the Srebrenica-Potočari Memorial Center by allocating a regular symbolic monthly donation of 100.00 KM from their work compensation (per diem), and these funds will be used for dedicated support of activities with domestic and international partners, as well as involving young people in researching the genocide in Srebrenica," added the Memorial Center. In the last week of August 2020, the Memorial Center will host a special event and a joint visit of the "Representatives for the Memorial Center" initiative, when the results of this initiative's work will be presented to the public.

Furthermore, this initiative should become the basis for proactive advocacy of legal solutions towards prohibiting the denial and minimization of genocide, joint projects to raise awareness about the genocide in Srebrenica, and more significant international cooperation with parliaments and representative bodies in other countries on protecting the memory of the genocide in Srebrenica.
