MP Kapetanović: I do my job professionally, and the BiH Parliament could convene more often

Three months ago, four out of ten MPs from the Party of Democratic Action in the House of Representatives of the BiH Parliament Šemsudin Mehmedović, Salko Sokolović, Sadik Ahmetović, and Senad Šepić decided to vote according to their conscience, not party lines, and at the same time demanded changes from SDA President Bakir Izetbegović in the party leadership.

This move by the MPs occurred a few days after the party Congress held on May 26, when many doubted the regularity of the elections for the Presidency and the Main Board, writes the BiH news agency Patria.

Given that the quartet did not back down but is determined to see things through, a letter has been prepared which they will send to Izetbegović, and which he will, as he told the media, comment on.

And while the MPs are on break until August 27, when the next session of the House of Representatives of the BiH Parliamentary Assembly is scheduled, information has emerged among other members of the SDA Caucus that there are more dissatisfied individuals besides these four.

MP Nermina Kapetanović, the only woman in the SDA Caucus in the House of Representatives of the BiH PA, told the Patria agency that she has no comment on the quartet or the letter.

- I have absolutely no comment on that letter, I know absolutely nothing about it, I only know from the media. I am doing my job and I am doing it professionally. I am waiting for the session that will be on August 27, and before that, I have the committees for foreign affairs and European integration – Kapetanović said.

She emphasized that, both as an MP and as a member of the committees, she will do everything to ensure BiH succeeds on its European path.

The Parliament could work a bit more, but I sincerely hope we will pick up a more intense pace.

There is so much work that the Parliament could convene two or three times a week. In neighboring countries, when they were gaining candidate status, they worked continuously, until late, they worked for weeks – Kapetanović pointed out.

If we intend to pass a set of laws and harmonize them, we could propose them ourselves, Kapetanović says.

We don't have to just wait for the Council of Ministers of BiH. European laws can be adopted immediately, there is no need to wait for candidate status. Good will needs to be shown to Europe. In the process when BiH needs to gain EU candidate status, I would propose that the BiH PA start discussions on harmonizing the legal acquis with European law. This will show that we are a credible negotiator and candidate. This will show that we have the readiness to persevere on our European path and to accelerate it for the sake of citizens and young people. In that context, the Parliament should convene a little more often – Kapetanović concluded.
