Protection of World Heritage: Osmanović condemns irresponsible behavior of a driver in Mostar

Minister of Civil Affairs of BiH and President of the State Commission for UNESCO Adil Osmanović sharply condemned the irresponsible behavior of a driver who attempted to drive a car over the Old Bridge in Mostar, it was announced from the relevant ministry, reports the Patria News Agency.

Osmanović warned of the obligations arising from the Decision on the Proclamation of the Old Core and the Old Bridge in Mostar as a National Monument and a UNESCO World Heritage Site.

He reminded that the Old Bridge is one of the most famous structures from Bosnia and Herzegovina in the world, and that it has immeasurable significance both in the cultural and historical sense, as well as in the tourist offer of Bosnia and Herzegovina.

- I call on all competent institutions to do their utmost within their jurisdictions to prevent events like this in Mostar. The preservation of cultural monuments is a common obligation of everyone in Bosnia and Herzegovina, said Osmanović.

This year marked ten years since the inscription of the Old Core and the Old Bridge in Mostar on the UNESCO World Heritage List. The tenth anniversary of the inscription was marked under the auspices of the Director-General of UNESCO, Irina Bokova, which speaks to the significance of this monument for world heritage, the Ministry announced.
