Protection from stray dogs: Fence around the Kovači Martyrs' Cemetery

In order to protect the Kovači Martyrs' Cemetery and its visitors from stray dogs, a fence will be temporarily erected around this complex, announced the Minister for Veterans' Affairs of Sarajevo Canton, Muharem Fišo, reports the Patria news agency.

On this occasion, the Minister held a meeting today with the Director of the Sarajevo Canton Fund for the Protection and Maintenance of Cemeteries of Martyrs and Fallen Soldiers, Memorial Centers and Memorials to Victims of Genocide - the Memorial Fund, Nurudin Džihom, and the designer of the conceptual solution for the „Kovači“ complex, Namik Muftić.

„We specified the necessary activities so that work can begin as soon as possible. Our goal is to prevent further desecration of graves and the increasingly frequent attacks by stray dogs on citizens who come here. Funds for carrying out the works are secured from current budget reserves, and they will begin as soon as the procedure for selecting the contractor is completed,“ said Minister Fišo.

According to his words, the area will remain fenced until an adequate solution for the stray dog problem is found, and after the fence is removed, it can be used for fencing other cemeteries where needed.

The initiative to fence the Kovači Martyrs' Cemetery was launched by the Association of Organizations of Families of Martyrs and Fallen Soldiers of Sarajevo Canton and the Stari Grad Municipal Council, to which the Government and Assembly of Sarajevo Canton gave their consent, it was announced from the Sarajevo Canton Government.
