Protecting the Dignity of the Profession: Urgently Prosecute Attackers of Medical Personnel in KS

(Patria) - Regarding last night's incident at the JU Sarajevo Canton Health Center, the KS Ministry of Health strongly condemns all forms of violence against healthcare workers.

Such events are completely unacceptable and deeply disturbing for the entire community.

​Healthcare workers must not be targets of attacks while performing their humanitarian duty. Their role in society is of fundamental importance, which is why their safety in the workplace must be fully guaranteed.

​The Minister of Health of Sarajevo Canton, Enis Hasanović, today visited the employees and premises where the attack occurred, accompanied by the director of the Health Center and the president of the union. This visit sent a clear message of support: "You are not alone."

​"We stand firmly with our healthcare workers and will decisively protect their right to safe and dignified work, without fear for their own lives. Caring for patients and caring for those who treat them must not be opposed. There is no safe patient without a safe healthcare worker," said Minister Hasanović.

​The KS Ministry of Health welcomes the amendments to the criminal legislation that tighten sanctions for attacks on healthcare workers, but emphasizes that the key lies in the full and consistent application of the law in practice. Violence in healthcare institutions requires an urgent, clear, and decisive reaction from all competent institutions.

​Minister Hasanović, also as a doctor, expressed full solidarity with his colleagues, emphasizing that the work of healthcare workers is worthy of the deepest respect, and their protection is one of the strategic priorities of the Sarajevo Canton Ministry of Health.
