House of Peoples of the Parliament of FBiH Convenes: Delegates to Discuss Amendments to Banking Law

(Patria) - The 17th session of the House of Peoples of the Parliament of FBiH has been scheduled for today in Sarajevo, starting at 12:00 PM. There are 13 items on the agenda.

The first item is the Bill on Amendments to the Law on Collection and Partial Write-off of Debts to Sports Collectives, which have the capacity to compete in European competitions but are hindered by financial debts.

In the licensing procedures for competitions, the financial criterion is imperative, and the conditions are defined by the rules of UEFA, FIFA, FIBA, as well as other international associations.

The aforementioned law was submitted to the parliamentary procedure by the Government of FBiH with the aim of enabling sports collectives to conclude debt settlement agreements and thus obtain licenses for participation in European competitions.

The Government of FBiH proposed to the Federal Parliament to consider these amendments to the law under an urgent procedure, as they are not complex or extensive, which is also permitted by the Rules of Procedure.

One of the items to be discussed is also the Bill on Amendments and Supplements to the Banking Law.

The proposer of this law is also the Government of FBiH, which stated in its materials, among other things, that it should contribute to the growth of private and public investments, as well as represent support for the economy and the public sector.

The proposed amendments and supplements align with the directives of the European Parliament and more clearly prescribe measures for preserving the capital and liquidity of banks as an important segment of financial capital.

The Government proposed that the Parliament decide on the law through an abbreviated procedure. If delegates approve such a procedure, it would mean that they will not submit amendments to the Government's main text.

As a reason for the abbreviated procedure, the Government stated that the proposed amendments and supplements are not complex and are of smaller scope.

"In a dynamic and increasingly complex financial environment, effective regulation of the banking sector becomes crucial for ensuring the stability and sustainability of the economy.

The current Banking Law requires amendments and supplements to align with modern practices, EU legislation, and global standards," stated the Government of FBiH.

Among other things, the agenda of the session also includes the Draft Law on Professional Rehabilitation and Employment of Persons with Disabilities, the Information on the Implementation of the Law on Financial Consolidation of Business Entities in FBiH, as well as the Special Report "Analysis of the Implementation of Recommendations by the Ombudsman for Human Rights of BiH".
