Sea freezes over in Kotor

In several locations in the Bay of Kotor, the sea partially froze over this morning, reports the Patria News Agency.

In the municipality of Kotor, ice has formed near the settlement of Prčanj, in the part towards Markov Rt, as well as along the Dobrota coast.

- Temperatures below zero contributed to this phenomenon, as well as the concentration of fresh water, which, being lighter than salt water, stays on the surface, said Aleksandar Joksimović from the Institute for Marine Biology.

He added that this phenomenon is favored by the fact that in addition to rivers flowing into the bay, there are also numerous freshwater springs, many of which are underwater, as well as calm, windless weather.
