Law on Support for Returnees to Srebrenica to Start from Sarajevo Canton

(Patria) - Nermin Nikšić, president of the Social Democratic Party of BiH (SDP), addressed a press conference regarding the draft law on support for returnees to Srebrenica.

"I hope that the Constitutional Court will accept the appeals for Srebrenica and return the election process to the beginning. We have a draft and we consciously did not put it into parliamentary procedure so that it would not be an election story," said Nikšić.

According to him, it was agreed at the meeting of the Four that this would be a joint project.

"The law starts from Sarajevo Canton because we are in power here. After KS, we will offer the law in cantons where the parties of the Four participate. First of all, in TK and USK, but also at the level of the Federation of BiH. It is common practice to help Srebrenica, and we will try to establish this as a practice in cities and municipalities where it does not exist," said Nikšić.

He added that it was said in Srebrenica that these solutions are being sought.

"The formation of a team to implement the law is also planned. I am happy that within the Four there is a unanimous decision to go for a systemic solution," concluded Nikšić.

The SDP specifies that this law defines incentive measures for the accelerated reconstruction and development of the Municipality of Srebrenica and support for victims of genocide committed in Srebrenica and their families. They say that the reconstruction and development of the Municipality of Srebrenica are of special interest to Sarajevo Canton.

"The rights defined by this law apply to residents of the Municipality of Srebrenica with registered permanent residence in this Municipality for at least six months before the day of exercising the right provided for by this law, and especially to citizens who survived the genocide in Srebrenica or whose family members were killed in the genocide in Srebrenica. Family members killed in the genocide in Srebrenica within the meaning of this law are considered parents or guardians, children, spouses, siblings, grandparents, and grandchildren of a citizen who is exercising the right, who were killed in the genocide in Srebrenica in the period 1992-1995, or are officially listed as missing persons during the commission of genocide in Srebrenica," the law states.

It is planned that an annual amount of 250,000 KM will be allocated from the KS Budget, not counting other benefits for returnees and persons who register their residence in the area of Srebrenica, such as free healthcare, free education at all levels, and 50% paid living costs.
