Law of March 1st enters into force: Who and how can get a job in Germany

(Patria) - As of yesterday, March 1st, 2020, the new German law on immigration of specialists entered into force, which applies to citizens of all countries around the world and primarily relates to individuals with vocational or academic qualifications.

Higher education or vocational qualifications must have been previously recognized in Germany, and according to the new immigration law, the first step is therefore to apply for recognition (nostrification) of the qualification in Germany.

If a certificate of recognition of the qualification has been issued, the next step is to apply for a visa at the German Embassy in Sarajevo.

What is new as of March 1st? If there is a job offer and the appropriate qualification has been recognized, specialists from all fields of work can immigrate in the future.

Individuals with a recognized vocational qualification can apply for a visa to seek employment. The job must be in line with their education and appropriate for their qualification. Individuals under the age of 25 can in the future apply for a visa to seek vocational training in Germany and complete their education there.

Proof of necessary German language proficiency is provided by submitting a certificate of a passed exam. There is no age limit. However, individuals over 45 years of age must provide proof of a minimum salary.

For individuals without higher education or vocational training, the existing rules for immigration to Germany still apply. The check of employment priority rules will continue to apply here. In the future, the provision that individuals over 45 years of age must present proof of a minimum salary will also apply to the rules for Western Balkan countries.
