Conclusion of the Munich Security Conference: ISIL is defeated

MUNICH, (Patria) - The three-day Munich Security Conference has concluded with a closing speech by Chairman Wolfgang Ischinger. 

- What is concerning are the dangers posed by nuclear weapons and what we do not like is the derogation of nuclear program control mechanisms - concluded Ischinger, calling on all relevant parties to start working from tomorrow to see improvements by the next Conference in 2019.

On the same stage sat representatives of countries that participated in operations in Syria. 

On behalf of Turkey, Foreign Minister Mevlüt Çavuşoğlu attended, along with Alexei Pushkov from the Russian Duma, former US Secretary of State John Kerry, and representative of the Arab League Ahmed Aboul-Gheit. Perhaps it was expected that the panel would feature conflicting views or harsh words, but that did not happen.

The most were said by representatives of Russia and the US, who agreed that unity is needed in the fight against terrorism.

Pushkov said he does not deny that Russia played a decisive role in the fight against ISIL, but that it intervened from the air, which played a very important role. He also praised the Assad regime, emphasizing that it is a stabilizing factor.

John Kerry acknowledged that all these countries (the US, Russia, Turkey, Arab countries) have a military interest in Syria, and that joint action against terrorism in the region is necessary.

The representative of the Arab League stated that ISIL has been defeated in Syria.

The Munich Conference was attended by 30 heads of state or government and about 80 foreign and defense ministers. Bosnia and Herzegovina was represented by the Chairman of the Council of Ministers, Denis Zvizdić.
