Thanks to the Municipality of Centar, DVD "Bjelave" Among the Best Equipped Units

A delegation from the Municipality of Centar, consisting of the Chairman of the Municipal Council Nedžad Ajnadžić, the Secretary of the Municipal Administration Jasna Beba, and the advisor to the Municipal Mayor Mustafa Resić, visited the Voluntary Firefighting Society "Bjelave", where they were hosted by commander Sulejman Vranac. The purpose of the visit was to discuss the past and future cooperation with the Municipality of Centar, reports the Patria News Agency.

The Voluntary Firefighting Society "Bjelave" is an example of a humanitarian organization whose members are among the first to arrive at accident sites in record time, helping the injured and saving their homes, often sacrificing their own lives. The Municipality of Centar Sarajevo, led by Mayor Dževad Bećirević, has had excellent cooperation with this society for many years and provides significant financial and other support. Thanks to this support, DVD "Bjelave" is one of the best-equipped firefighting societies in Bosnia and Herzegovina.

The commander of DVD "Bjelave", Sulejman Vranac, stated that the support provided by the Municipality of Centar is of immeasurable importance for the survival of the society.

- The "Bjelave" Firefighting Society was founded in 1950. We currently have two professional employees, about 30 members, of whom 15 are active members we can rely on in case of interventions. Among all firefighting societies in the Canton area, we have the fewest problems thanks to the Municipality of Centar. Within our society, there is a Fire Protection Service within the Civil Protection Service.

We supply drinking water to Nahorevska brda, and until a few years ago, we also did so for the Grdonj settlement. We also provide support in securing sports events, maintaining shelters, respond in case of natural disasters, and more.

In the past year, we had a total of 522 interventions related to firefighting, interventions in case of floods, interventions in demolishing buildings, washing public areas, water supply, and securing sports events. We continuously conduct fire protection training in all primary schools in the Municipality of Centar. Our society would not survive without the support of the Municipality of Centar, for which we are very grateful to this local community and especially to Mayor Bećirević, Vranac emphasized.

Chairman Ajnadžić highlighted the importance of DVD "Bjelave" and added that the Municipality of Centar will continue to consider the needs of this society in the future.

- The Municipality of Centar has increased its annual allocations by 10,000 KM due to the volume of fuel consumption for water supply by tankers to Nahorevska brda. We sincerely hope and are actively working to resolve the issue of water supply to Nahorevo by next year. I am satisfied with your position, place, and role in society, and this local community will be understanding regarding financial support in the future. My wish is for you to establish functional volunteer positions in all local communities, especially in critical ones that could be most vulnerable, and to create a project for mass training of young people leading to certification.

Such a project would be financed by the Municipality. I believe it is necessary to establish an interactive relationship between young people and also with scouts, hunting societies, and mountaineers, because we have youth who lack social responsibility, and that must change. I believe that a firefighting society like yours should have a water cannon, and the local community is willing to help you in that regard, Ajnadžić concluded.

Advisor Resić added that the members of DVD "Bjelave" showed great dedication when the Municipality of Centar building caught fire, and under conditions when the professional brigade's aerial ladder was not operational.

In recent years, the Municipality of Centar Sarajevo has procured for DVD "Bjelave", among other things, a delivery firefighting vehicle with a capacity of 8,000 liters, an attack vehicle, a boat with a motor, protective clothing and footwear for a team of eight people, fire hoses, backpacks, belts, axes, and fire hooks... for which 750,000 KM was allocated. In addition, over the past seven years, 637,780 KM has been allocated from the budget of the Municipality of Centar to support the work of DVD "Bjelave".
