Request for the exhibition of the Charter of Ban Kulin in BiH

The Council of Ministers of BiH has tasked the Ministry of Civil Affairs, in cooperation with the Ministries of Justice and Foreign Affairs, to initiate activities to obtain from the Russian Federation the Charter of Ban Kulin for temporary exhibition in BiH.

Bosnia and Herzegovina requested the return of the Charter of Ban Kulin from Russia at the end of 2015, which is kept in the library of the Russian Academy of Sciences in Saint Petersburg. At that time, the Minister of Civil Affairs of Bosnia and Herzegovina, Adil Osmanović, and the Minister of Culture of Russia, Vladimir Medinsky, met in that city.

Osmanović handed over a letter to his Russian counterpart, explaining the reasons for the return of the Charter of Ban Kulin to Bosnia and Herzegovina.

The Charter of the Bosnian Ban Kulin was written on August 29, 1189, in the Old Bosnian vernacular and in the Bosnian script, Bosancica.

This document is not only the oldest preserved Bosnian state document found to date, but the Charter of the Bosnian Ban Kulin is also the oldest state document among all South Slavic peoples and states.
