Concern and dissatisfaction over the increasingly difficult position of Bosniaks in Srebrenica

(Patria) - A meeting of representatives of associations gathering genocide survivors, representatives of pro-Bosniak political parties (SDA, SBiH, SDP, NiP, DF), and representatives of the Islamic Community was held in Srebrenica today.

At the meeting, symbolically held on International Human Rights Day, participants discussed the current political and social situation, and the position of Bosniaks in Srebrenica.

The meeting highlighted concern and dissatisfaction over the increasingly difficult position of Bosniaks in this town, especially after the dismissal of Hamdija Fejzić from the position of Deputy Mayor of Srebrenica Municipality and the appointment of a person of Serbian nationality to the position of deputy.

It was stated that the basic human rights of Bosniaks in Srebrenica are endangered, and that Bosniaks in this town live in a kind of apartheid where their rights have been violated daily for years, even though this is the town where genocide against Bosniaks was committed.

The participants of the meeting call on the international community, and especially the High Representative in Bosnia and Herzegovina, Mr. Christian Schmidt, to get involved in resolving the problems in this town.

In addition to the aforementioned, the meeting was attended by Bosniak councilors in the Municipal Assembly of Srebrenica, the President of the Municipal Assembly of Srebrenica Salko Tursunović, the dismissed Deputy Mayor Hamdija Fejzić, heads of departments in the Municipality of Srebrenica, and individuals from public and political life in Srebrenica.
