(Patria) - The Municipality of Novo Sarajevo announced today that it has begun the implementation of the reconstruction project for the "Ars Aevi" pedestrian bridge - one of the city's architectural symbols connecting the Grbavica settlement with Wilson's Promenade and the museum quarter, across the Miljacka River.
The bridge, completed in 2002, was created based on the conceptual design by Italian architect Renzo Piano and has since represented not only a functional connection but also an important urban and cultural feature of Sarajevo.
A detailed analysis of the bridge's current condition has indicated the need for urgent and comprehensive renovation, aiming to ensure the long-term stability, safety, and full functionality of this infrastructural facility.
The renovation project includes the dismantling and repair of the steel fence, anti-corrosion protection, repair of the main supports, steel tensioners, decking, and steel sheets, repair of concrete abutments, and replacement of elastomeric bearings at both ends of the bridge.
The total value of the works amounts to 235,000 KM, of which the Federal Ministry of Environment and Tourism is co-financing the project with 44,000 KM within the Public Call "Capital transfers to other levels of government and funds - Transfer for tourism development in the Federation of BiH for 2025".
The Public Procurement procedure for selecting the most favorable contractor is currently underway, after which the project implementation will commence.
