For Ćosić and Pećanac, 2014 was successful; citizens are arming themselves and finding stolen vehicles on their own

The Ministry of Interior of Sarajevo Canton held its annual press conference today, presenting the results of police officers' work for 2014, reports the Bosnian news agency Patria.

Although it sounds unbelievable, the Minister of Interior of Sarajevo Canton, Nermin Pećanac, and the first police officer of the Canton, Commissioner Vahid Ćosić, assessed the past year as successful, even though 6,208 criminal offenses were recorded last year, including seven murders, 11 attempted murders, and thousands of other various criminal acts.

Presumably, the success lies in the fact that 282 fewer offenses were recorded than in 2013.

SELF-PROTECTION OF CITIZENS

In that same "successful period," Police Administrations issued 881 permits for the procurement of firearms to individuals, which is 127 permits more compared to 2013. A total of 1,206 gun licenses were issued (115 more than in 2013), and 135 gun license replacements were carried out for individuals.

It is evident that citizens of Sarajevo Canton are organizing themselves and taking radical protective measures given the insecurity prevailing in Sarajevo.

STOLEN VEHICLES

During 2014, 825 criminal offenses of grand theft of motor vehicles were committed in the area of Sarajevo Canton, of which 222 were found and returned. Compared to 2013, 25 more vehicles were stolen.

Believe it or not, the Ministry of Interior of Sarajevo Canton found and returned 75 vehicles, while 74 vehicles were found by the owners themselves. The Ministry of Interior of Republika Srpska found 44 vehicles, other ministries of interior found 25, and four vehicles were returned for a monetary compensation, without specifying who gave the compensation to whom.

The exact number of car arsons is not stated, except that throughout the year, 40 fires caused by open flames were recorded.
