In four days, 695 drivers removed from traffic due to alcohol

The Ministry of Internal Affairs of Republika Srpska, with the aim of improving traffic safety in the territory of Republika Srpska from February 25 to 28, organized and implemented a republic-wide action of enhanced control of traffic participants, with an emphasis on determining the presence of alcohol in the body or the presence of narcotic drugs or psychoactive medications, announced the MUP RS, as reported by the Patria news agency.

During the action, 701 drivers were removed from traffic, of which 695 were removed due to driving under the influence of alcohol, 4 due to the determined presence of drugs or psychoactive medications (three tested positive for cannabis and one for cocaine), and two drivers were removed for refusing to be tested using appropriate devices and instruments.

Of the aforementioned number of removed drivers, due to determined alcohol levels exceeding 1.00 g/kg, and in accordance with Article 170, paragraph 4 of the Law on Misdemeanors of Republika Srpska, 209 or 29.81% of drivers were arrested and detained until sobering or recovery, for a maximum of 12 hours.

The Ministry of Internal Affairs of Republika Srpska will continue to conduct enhanced controls of traffic participants in the coming period, and we appeal to all traffic participants to behave responsibly and respect traffic regulations, the statement reads.
