Nearly 20,000 caps collected for 'Cape Carpet', implementation begins in November

The project of making a carpet from PVC caps, the so-called „Cape Carpet“ should begin in November as part of the European Week for Waste Reduction, confirmed for the Bosnian news agency Patria Alma Hrasnica, president of the ecological association „Green Art“ from Sarajevo.

- Although it was originally planned to make a carpet of 30 square meters, I expanded the design so it will be slightly larger – said Hrasnica, adding that she found inspiration for additional patterns in the traditional woolen sock.

- I wanted to incorporate as much Bosnian cultural heritage as possible into the project, and as the project grows, so does the interest of citizens who bring me caps – says Hrasnica.

Given that the design has been expanded, more than 25,000 caps will be needed for its creation, and they are already approaching the number of 20,000.

- I am extremely satisfied, both as a freelance artist and as a citizen, with how the community has recognized the importance of this project – emphasized Hrasnica.

In recent days, work with volunteers on the project has focused on sorting caps by size and color, and the collection campaign is still ongoing. All those who wish to contribute can take the collected caps to the Cap Centers in Unitic. The idea of a „Cape Carpet for Guinness“ will be realized after the European Week for Waste Reduction.

Incidentally, Hrasnica is an academic graphic designer and, with the support of the Ministry of Culture and Sports of the Sarajevo Canton, she received the status of a prominent freelance artist, and on several occasions they have been patrons of her creative work in the ecological association Green Art.
