YIHR: Kordić's lecture glorifies war and violence

(Patria) - The Youth Initiative for Human Rights in Croatia sent an open letter to the manager of the Student Dormitory 'Stjepan Radić' regarding the lecture given by war criminal Dario Kordić.

"The reason for our address is the lecture held yesterday, April 2, 2019, by Dario Kordić, a war criminal with a final conviction, organized by the Student Pastoral Care and the Homeland Club of Herzegovinian Students in the 'Forum' cinema of the Zagreb student dormitory 'Stjepan Radić', of which you are the manager.
You allowed and enabled a war criminal, who has never, not even yesterday, apologized for the monstrosities for which he is responsible, to address the public. We remind you that the verdict by which Dario Kordić was found guilty by the International Criminal Tribunal for the former Yugoslavia establishes his responsibility for the worst forms of crimes, including responsibility for the massacre in Ahmići in 1993, in which members of the Croatian Defence Council killed more than one hundred civilians, including 32 women and 11 children.

By providing public space to such individuals, a society is built that glorifies war and violence, belittles and disrespects victims, and actively promotes values contrary to human rights.
In order for students and the interested public to gain knowledge and insights into the events and crimes that occurred in central Bosnia in the early nineties, we request that you organize a screening of the film 'Crimes Before the Tribunal – Central Bosnia', produced by the International Criminal Tribunal for the former Yugoslavia, in the 'Forum' cinema, which, among other things, addresses the crimes committed in Ahmići for which Kordić was found guilty and sentenced to 25 years in prison.

Hoping that you recognize the importance and responsibility of showing the mentioned screening, we ask that it be held on April 16, on the 26th anniversary of the Ahmići crime," the letter states.
