Vranić: Omicron will affect every one of us, we are considering easing measures

SARAJEVO, (Patria) - We are moving towards collective immunity, omicron will affect every one of us but fortunately it does not cause increased mortality, said the Minister of Health of the Sarajevo Canton, Haris Vranić, at today's press conference. 

"Omicron is the dominant strain, which can be concluded from clinical pictures. The third wave was deadly, now this virus has mutated so much, it is not harmless, let's be clear. We have over 92 percent of deaths among those who are not vaccinated. Mostly it concerns people born between 1927 and 1938," said Vranić.    

In the Sarajevo Canton, more than 60 percent of citizens have been vaccinated with two doses.

"The number of newly infected compared to the number of hospitalized is not relevant. Now the World Health Organization recommends counting only critical patients who are in intensive care. I appeal for the use of harmonized treatment protocols. The protocol written for the treatment, detection and prevention of Covid-19 is harmonized, I do not know if all health institutions have read it," said Vranić.

One of the problems is that primary healthcare doctors are prescribing antibiotics in huge quantities.

"But antibiotics do not treat viral infections. The only cure is vaccination," said Vranić. 

He added that the Crisis Staff is already planning to start easing measures. When asked which specific measures, Vranić said "all, complete freedom."
