Drive Carefully and Prepare Your Car for Winter

Traffic this morning on most roads in Bosnia and Herzegovina is proceeding without significant delays on intermittently wet roads, according to BIHAMK, reports the BH News Agency Patria.

- Fog reduces visibility on sections passing through valleys and river courses, and we highlight the road sections in the areas of Sarajevo, Bugojno, Odžak, Prozor, Žepče, and Doboj - it was announced.

Drivers are urged to drive with maximum caution, paying special attention to sections passing through cuttings, due to possible localized landslides of earth or rocks onto the road.

Possession of winter equipment is legally mandatory.

Before the winter cold, it is necessary to pay special attention to the engine and the devices around it. This will save you frustration and money.

Coolant - Inadequate or old coolant (especially water) gradually turns into ice, which expands. This can damage engine parts (radiator, block, lines through which the coolant flows). It is necessary to check everything in the cooling system, and top up or replace the antifreeze.

Battery - If the battery is old, drivers can expect problems starting the engine during the winter period. Batteries last from three to five years, and before winter, it is certainly necessary to check how charged the battery is. An insufficiently strong battery is a particular problem for owners of diesel cars, as these engines require more power to start.

Tires - How the vehicle will behave on wet or icy roads depends mostly on the tires. Therefore, the tread depth should be checked, which for winter driving conditions should be greater than 4 mm. According to research, the braking distance of a car driving at 80 km/h on snow is 70 meters if it has winter tires, and if the vehicle has summer tires, the braking distance increases by 42 meters.

Brakes - Always, and especially in winter driving conditions, it is important that the brakes function flawlessly. If there is moisture in the brake fluid, it must be replaced, regardless of whether the two-year period has passed.

Electrical System - It is necessary to clean and check the electrical system. It is advisable to spray it with protective agents. If any connections have corroded, they need to be cleaned.

Glass - Instead of plain water, liquid that can be purchased for this purpose at gas stations should be poured into the windshield washer fluid reservoir. For washing windows, liquid suitable for temperatures down to minus 20 degrees is sufficient. The condition of the wiper blades should also be checked, and if they are worn out, they should be replaced. The windshield washer fluid should be enriched with antifreeze liquid to prevent damage to its reservoir or electric pump.

Heating - It is necessary to check if the heating is working and if the fan is blowing warm air. If there is any defect that you cannot fix yourself, contact a mechanic.
