Duchess of Edinburgh conveyed King Charles's message: There can be no common future if the past is denied

(Patria) - At the commemoration of the 30th anniversary of the Srebrenica genocide, the Duchess of Edinburgh addressed the attendees, conveying a message of solidarity and recognition of the suffering of the victims and the strength of the survivors on behalf of King Charles III.

“It is an honour to be here with you today and to have the privilege of conveying His Majesty’s message. King Charles expressed his deep regret that he could not personally attend this important event. In his message, he stated that he felt honoured to be able to send words of support and remembrance,” said the Duchess.

In his message, King Charles recalled the terrible events of July 1995, calling them what they are – genocide.

“Many perpetrators have faced justice, but that does not absolve the rest of us of responsibility. I humbly salute the Mothers of Srebrenica and all those who work tirelessly to preserve the memory. I admire them. We can all learn from their strength and courage,” the message reads.

The King particularly emphasized the importance of acknowledging the truth as the foundation for a common future.

“There can be no common future when the events of the past are denied. Only by working together, through the search for the missing and seeking answers, can we bring peace to those who still suffer,” King Charles conveyed.

The Duchess said that the King calls on everyone to “today, as we remember the victims and those left behind, stand shoulder to shoulder with them – with dignity and enduring remembrance.”
