(Patria) - In the Vogošća neighborhood of Rosulje, keys to new housing units were handed over to a total of 118 families from the veteran category, who have exercised this right in accordance with the law. This is a capital project of the Ministry for Veterans' Affairs of the Sarajevo Canton, which, in cooperation with the Institute for Construction, has been taking care of the housing needs of the veteran population for years.
The Minister for Veterans' Affairs of the Sarajevo Canton, Omer Osmanović, said that this festive moment is an opportunity to once again pay due respect to all fallen veterans, and that the allocation of apartments is the least we can do for their families.
“I have before me a piece of paper, with a list of people, families totaling 222 individuals, who have moved into their apartments from 2021 until today. We will not tear up this list; instead, we will frame it as proof of the systematic resolution of projects. You who are here today and who have received the keys to your apartments are a category of people for whom we always have a special sensitivity. At the beginning of my term, I found this long-standing waiting list, which I can proudly say no longer exists, given that the processing of such requests now proceeds continuously. We plan to allocate another 25 apartments in Ilijaš, which will be ready for occupancy next year, thereby rounding off the housing policy project in the Ministry. I am proud of everyone who had a part in such an act; our heroes - the martyrs - deserved this,” stated Minister Osmanović.
The ceremony was also attended by the Prime Minister of the Sarajevo Canton, Nihad Uk, who said that it is our permanent obligation to take care of those most deserving of our freedom today.
“It gives me great pleasure to be able to witness today a truly significant life moment such as resolving a housing issue. The Government of the Sarajevo Canton will continue to unanimously support projects concerning the veteran population and the people who gave the most valuable thing for our homeland. Just as your husbands, sons, and fathers defended us in the 1990s, so we today pay tribute to them in this way. I sincerely wish you happy moments in your new apartments, with many memories that you will create in the municipality of Vogošća,” said Prime Minister Uk.
According to the President of the Assembly of the Sarajevo Canton, Elvedin Okerić, the project of housing resolution for the veteran population is a joint endeavor of which he is very proud.
“The Assembly of the Sarajevo Canton, along with the Government, has never had a dilemma when it comes to such projects. I am extremely pleased that we are here today to move all of you into new apartments, where 118 families have found their address. Only systematically and together can we resolve such large projects, and it is an honor to be a part of them, with the note that we will not stop here, as the construction of a housing unit in Ilijaš is in the pipeline, where we have given consent for the purchase of 25 apartments for members of this category,” said President Okerić.
The Director of the Housing Construction Fund of the Sarajevo Canton, Elvedin Lagarija, on this occasion thanked everyone who supported this project, while stating that these families had long awaited this moment, which permanently resolved their housing problem. In the coming period, with continued support from cantonal levels of government, we will continue the construction of the facility in Ilijaš, which will be a home for members of the veteran population.
The new residents of the municipality of Vogošća were also welcomed by the Mayor of Vogošća, Migdad Hasanović, who said that the municipality's commitment remains cooperation with all levels of cantonal government, and this project is certainly one of the dearest, the municipal mayor emphasized.
Those present were also addressed by the President of the Coordination Committee of Veterans' Associations from the area of the Sarajevo Canton, Ismet Imamović.
With the ceremonial handover of keys to the new housing units in Rosulje, 118 families moved into their homes, who toured the premises in Vogošća with great joy, which from today they will call their municipality.
