Water levels across BiH decreasing and stabilizing, danger not over

(Patria) - According to the regular report on the state of natural and other disasters in the Federation of BiH for January 11/12, 2026, as of 10:00 AM, the situation on most watercourses shows signs of stabilization and decreasing water levels.

Nevertheless, some areas are still affected by floods, while landslides in the Canton of Sarajevo are under increased supervision by civil protection.

Herzegovina: Waters receding, but flooded areas still evident

In the City of Mostar, the water level in the Radobolja and Buna rivers is slightly decreasing and approaching values below the regular flood defense.

In the City of Čapljina, fields in the Trebižat river basin are still flooded, but water recession has been recorded.

In the City of Stolac, agricultural areas in the locations Crnići–Greda and Luke are still under water.

Tuzla Canton: Modrac water level increased, but no overflow

The water level at the HA Modrac dam this morning at 07:00 AM was 198.64 meters above sea level, while the overflow point is at 200 m.a.s.l. Compared to the measurement 24 hours ago, the water level is 11 centimeters higher.

The discharge through the bottom outlets is 9.00 m³/s.

West Herzegovina Canton: Trebižat above regular defense measure

At the Humac water gauge station, the Trebižat river at 07:30 AM had a water level of 308 cm, which is above the regular flood defense measure (280 cm), but below the extraordinary measure (330 cm). A decreasing trend of 1 cm has been recorded.

Other Cantons: Stabilization and decreasing water levels

In the Zenica-Doboj Canton, river levels and all watercourses are gradually decreasing.

In the Bosniak-Podrinje Canton, specifically in the city of Goražde, the level of the Drina river and its tributaries is constantly decreasing, and this morning at 07:00 AM the Drina's water level was 103 cm.

In the Municipality of Foča FBiH, in the local community of Jabuka, emergency measures continue to be organized. The Šilovički stream has been channeled at the Lugovi location, which has enabled passage to the villages of Dragovići and Zabor. The water levels of the Drina, Kolina, Kosovska river, and Osanica rivers do not threaten people and property and show a decreasing trend.

Landslides in Sarajevo: 24-hour monitoring without significant changes

In the Canton of Sarajevo, in the Municipality of Stari Grad, in accordance with the orders of the KS Civil Protection Headquarters, 24-hour terrain observation has been organized at the locations Curine njive, Knjeginjac, and Bistrički potok.

A field visit on January 11, 2026, determined that there were no significant changes compared to the previous day. At the Curine njive location, drainage flushing due to precipitation, lack of drainage gravel, water diversion towards the forest area, tilted and broken trees, as well as existing cracks and signs of erosion with slight expansion have been recorded.

Due to new snowfall, visibility is reduced, making it difficult to monitor the condition of the cracks. No new deposition of construction material has been recorded at the Knjeginjac landfill, while no new degradation has been observed in the Bistrički potok stream bed. The inflow of water from Trebević and from the water intake near the bridge at Boguševac remains increased.

Relevant services remain on full alert, and citizens are advised to exercise caution, especially in areas prone to floods and landslides, and to follow official warnings and information, it was announced from the Federal Civil Protection Administration of FBiH.
